“No more ribbons and bows” is going to be my new phrase to symbolize any progression toward change, releasing all fashion traditions, abandoning exhausted mainstream trends. I am NOT anti-ribbons or bows, despite what you’ve read about me in the news. Justice for them, tbh!
Also, full thoughts on that (and what went down at fashion week) to come later this week. But for now, just some brief holiday fashion thoughts informed by FW23 in this Sunday Short (or S/S).
I’m over it, tis the season to challenge historical holiday-coded fashion! These are my picks for holiday parties and end of year galas that I find cooler than dressing up like a present. There aren’t affiliate links, this is just the VIBE I’m doing.
First of all, I think bright gold is so mid 2000s hipster M.I.A., Santogold, Solange “Losing You” coded and I’m down for its comeback, especially in holiday fashion. Hello? XXXO!

Anyway, my newfound bright yellowish gold appreciation c/o Pat McGrath leads me to this gorgeous pearlescent BEVZA shade over typical greens / reds / silvers. I also went to the BEVZA runway last season and wanted to understand their aesthetic, I think it’s conveyed so well on the SSENSE website, and I think it’s the best direction for their brand. I saw them as really “fashion-y”, but they look more stylish on SSENSE (word to their stylists). They should position themselves as really edgy and artsy, it’d be super funny, and it’d work. Bevza, showing at EUROPA when?

Anything Aaron Esh is a must. With one of the best collections at LFW last season, the CSM graduate put forth an incredible offering in the lifestyle brand category. His work is poetic and organic like 90s Ann Demeulemeester, but laid back and forward in a way only he can convey. A muuuuust. He held his runway show in the Tate museum with a soundscape designed by the iconic DJ John Gosling. It was so jarring and cool, artsy and romantic, but not at all contrived or uptight. Perfect to set the dissonant tone for the holidays. You are not at your family’s home, you are (mentally) smoking outside of a London club, being sexy.

Paris Georgia is sexy and working toward sustainability (they acknowledge any brand oriented around production is counter to sustainability, but that they’re trying), with designs that look vintage but simultaneously exist alongside a contemporary Pinterest moodboard— it’s good for inspiration, for sure!
Again, no expectation that anyone go out and snatch any of these sexy dresses for their holiday party (I created a Substack way too close to Christmas, and after Hanukkah) but I’m really only into mood boarding “vibes” now anyway, not taking them so literally!
Anyway, this will be the start of short Sunday wraps of my thoughts, and they will be much more alienating and personal, so I hope you enjoy. xxxoooo xxxxoooo
